Course Details
The bachelor of science generally takes four years to complete. After one year of study, you may apply to your desired major program; you may also select a minor. Students who wish to declare more than one major should consult the joint program options. If no joint option exists, students can complete a double major by fulfilling all the requirements of two individual majors. Direct entry into the faculty is subject to meeting the general admission (General admission means you meet the university’s minimum requirements to gain early or verified acceptance) requirements for Memorial University, including appropriate courses in mathematics and a laboratory science.

Grenfell Campus offers an undergraduate degree program in business administration as well as a minor program for students completing other degrees. Students must complete 120 credit hours subject to core program and specific BBA program requirements. There is also an honours option available. Students may choose to complete a minor program; however, a minor is not required. Each student is on their own individual learning path. The bachelor of business administration is comprised of 120 credit hours (40 courses). It is important that students work with an advisor to ensure suitable course selection and determine an appropriate course load as students have the option of doing up to 15 credit hours (5 courses) per semester.

The Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Computer Engineering is a course-based graduate program which prepares its graduates for further post-graduate study or for careers as Computer Engineers in sectors such as telecommunications, information technology, software development, and digital hardware design. The degree will provide participants with a balanced background in computer hardware and software and an in-depth knowledge of important applications areas, such as software development, hardware design, telecommunication systems, computer networks, and parallel computing. The total credit requirement for this program is 33 credit hours. The courses are divided into core courses, elective courses and a project course. The core is designed to provide the students with advanced concepts and hardware/software skills in the area. The electives give more in-depth information on application areas. The project should be taken in the last two semesters.

The Master of Applied Science in Software Engineering (MASc.SE) is a course-based master’s program intended for students with a computer science or computer engineering background who wish to upgrade their background to specialize in software engineering. The MASc.SE is a four-term, course-based master’s program offered jointly by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science and the Faculty of Science. Graduates of the program will have knowledge and understanding of the core areas and methods in software engineering and will be ready to work in positions of software development, computer systems architecture and design, and distributed services. The program distinguishes itself from existing course options in computer science and computer engineering with its increased focus on software engineering and related topics and a decreased emphasis on other areas, such as hardware, digital design and communications. The program consists of 21 credit hours of core courses and nine credit hours of elective courses (subject to the chair of the program’s approval), either from the list below or an approved replacement.
