The University of Windsor traces its roots to the establishment in September 1857 of Assumption College, which, by 1919, had become one of the largest colleges affiliated with the University of Western Ontario. The president of UWin is Robert Gordon from 2019. 2020s In 2022, the University extended its downtown presence by acquiring 300 Ouellette Ave. for the School of Computer Science Master of Applied Computing program. The University further extended its community presence with the redevelopment of the Toldo Lancer Centre. This versatile facility now serves as the hub for recreational services, intercollegiate sports, and varsity teams, providing a modern space. Today, the 51-hectare campus offers 140+ programs, serving over 16,000 students. The University of Windsor offers two master-level engineering programs — Master of Engineering (MEng) and Master of Applied Science (MASc). MEng is a course-based program designed for working professionals or recent graduates who want to increase their knowledge in multiple advanced topics. An MEng Degree may be awarded upon successfully completing eight courses (the MEng has no research component/thesis/work with a faculty supervisor.) Of these eight courses. Four courses must be from the student's department (For example major; mechanical) - (Five courses for Civil and Environmental students). Plus four required courses to be taken in the first or second semester of the program: Computational Methods and Modeling for Engineering Applications (Civil and Environmental students are not required to take this course); Engineering Technical Communications; Engineering Mathematics; and Engineering Project Management The co-op program is optional; students must apply during the semester prior to their program start. No funding or scholarships are available. Focus your MEng degree in one of the following areas: Civil Engineering Electrical and Computer Engineering Environmental Engineering Industrial Engineering Materials Engineering Mechanical Engineering Mechanical Engineering (Automotive Option) • Full-time students must complete this program in 3-5 semesters. • An MEng Degree may be awarded upon successful completion of a total of eight courses • All students will take three or four general courses in their first two semesters, depending on their discipline. The Master of Applied Computing is a professional program that will provide students with a solid foundation and knowledge of industry-oriented practical aspects of Computer Science, which will enable them to take up positions in the growing software industry in Canada and around the world. Internship Requirements - Students will be required to complete an approved work-placement internship as part of their COMP 8977 course. Exceptionally, if a student is unable to secure a work-placement with an industry partner, he/she will be assigned an on-campus supervised project. Students will receive credit for the course COMP 8977 (worth 3 credit hours) upon successful completion of their internship. In exceptional circumstances and on a case-bycase basis, the internship could be extended for up to an additional 4-month term, with the permission of the School of Computer Science. In this case, an additional fee will be paid by students to cover the cost of the internship extension. Standing Required for Continuation in the Program - Students must maintain an average of 70%. Students may be permitted to have at most two course grades between 60-69%, on a case by case basis, based on recommendation from the MAC program committee.
