The BSc Honours Biological Sciences Programme is designed to give graduates in-depth knowledge related to the diversity and complexity of living organisms and their interactions. This course allows students to study life (bacterial, fungal, plant, animal) at the molecular level through to whole populations and ecosystems. The programme is underpinned by an active research environment and aims to enable all students to develop comprehensive subject-specific knowledge with practical and transferable skills in the core areas of Zoology, Genetics, Marine Biology, Biochemistry and Microbiology whilst encouraging creative thinking, innovation and leadership. On completion of the programme successful students will have developed the knowledge and expertise required to pursue a research or other professional career in Biological Sciences.

The BSc Honours Microbiology Programme is designed to give graduates in-depth knowledge into the concepts and theories relating to microbiology. This course allows students to understand the complexity and diversity of life through the study of micro-organisms at the molecular and physiological level through to their genetics and evolution. Students will gain a broad appreciation of the importance of microbiology to human health, agri-food production and the environment and the field of biotechnology. The programme is underpinned by an active research environment and aims to enable all students to develop comprehensive subject-specific knowledge with practical and transferable skills in the area of microbiology whilst, encouraging creative thinking, innovation and leadership. On completion of the programme successful students will have developed the knowledge and expertise required to pursue a research or other professional career in the Microbial Sciences.

The program aims to provide a strong foundation in Information Technology and Management, preparing graduates for careers as software developers or managers in technology-driven business environments. It focuses on the principles of Software Engineering, IT, and Management, with an emphasis on applying them to solve business-related technological challenges and enhance globally competitive practices.

This programme aims to produce graduates with the scientific knowledge and practical skills for a career in the pharmaceutical and related industries. Successful students will have demonstrated a high degree of scientific understanding, practical ability and transferrable skills that will enable them to make a valuable contribution to society.

Equip students with an understanding of how modern organisations work by focusing on the connections between business, government and society, the role of leadership, innovation and creativity.

Normally, taught modules are delivered using block mode delivery. In block mode delivery, modules are delivered in sequence, with each individual module being taught in a 4-week period. This consists of face-to-face teaching (lectures/labs) timetabled between 9am and 5pm for two and half days per week, over three weeks. The fourth week in the module block is typically reserved for coursework and independent study.

The programme is built around the three core areas needed to succeed in analytics: business knowledge, statistics, and computing. This includes modules focusing on the application of analytics in core business functions such as marketing and human resources, as well as modules focusing on developing and applying technical skills such as advanced analytics and machine learning, text mining, data management, and data driven decision making. In total, students will study eight modules in addition to pre-course training and a final dissertation project. The dissertation project will involve the application of the business, technical, and statistical skills learnt during the courses.

Data Analytics is an exciting field of rapid developments. Data is everywhere and continuing to grow massively, creating huge growth in demand for qualified experts to be able to extract the real benefit from the data. The role of a data scientist is highly diverse overlapping many areas from computer science, to the fundamentals of mathematics, statistics, modelling and analytics while also requiring the right skills to be able to see the detail, solve the problem (having specified the problem!), and communicate effectively the findings to colleagues to empower them to make decisions.

The LLM Criminology and Criminal Justice Programme takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of crime and justice and draws on original staff research. Modules are rooted in relevant theoretical frameworks with a strong criminological focus and provide students with methodological training in addition to supporting the development of critical analysis and other transferable skills. Through the dissertation, students can explore a wide variety of criminological and criminal justice topics. Students are encouraged to develop a critical understanding of the criminal justice process and the practical operation of criminal law in a domestic and comparative context, and are given the opportunity to explore in-depth a particular criminal justice-related issue through the submission of a dissertation. The programme is delivered through a series of taught modules and culminates in the submission of the dissertation on an original topic.
