Course Details
Foundation (UTP Stage I) at TMUIC is designed to prepare you for entry to university-level programs in Arts, Business Management, International Economics and Finance, Creative Industries, and Professional Communication. In Foundation (UTP Stage I) you complete eight courses. After successfully completing this program you will progress to International Year One (UTP Stage II).

Delivered by the Toronto Metropolitan University English Language Institute (ELI), the EAP is a pathway program designed to help you strengthen your English language skills. This program facilitates your transition to TMUIC foundation programs, adding an additional 8-16 weeks (dependent on your English language proficiency) to the start of the program. Your small class environment will include project-based assessments and feedback on your language skills. Individualized areas of focus include opportunities to: Read and analyze academic text Practice note taking and summarizing Participate in group discussions Produce and revise a variety of writing pieces Engage in active listening and class participation Students who successfully complete the EAP program will be exempted from ILC101 and will be required to take (and pass) ILS101 – Integrated Learning Skills.

International Year One (UTP Stage II): Arts is equivalent to the first year of Toronto Metropolitan University’s Bachelor of Arts degree. International Year One (UTP Stage II): Arts is a first-year studies option that lets you explore social science and humanities programs areas before applying to your program of choice for your second year. All courses that you successfully complete in the Arts program will be credited to the selected Toronto Metropolitan University major. Students can also choose electives from a wide range of areas including marketing, human resources and business – many of which can lead to a minor.

International Year One (UTP Stage II): Creative Industries is equivalent to the first year of Toronto Metropolitan University’s Bachelor of Arts in Creative Industries degree. Upon successful completion of International Year One (UTP Stage II), you’ll progress to the second year of this degree program at TMU which is housed in The Creative School. The Creative School offers the unique Creative Industries program that is strategically designed for those with a creative flair to blossom into leaders and experts of business in the Creative Industries. The program empowers students to explore and understand the Creative Industries as both creative process and commercial activity. Leveraging the tutelage of the Ted Rogers School of Management, Canada’s largest undergraduate business school, students will develop a world-class business acumen, propelling them to the heights of the exciting world of Creative Industries.

Upon the successful completion of International Year One (UTP Stage II), you’ll begin the second year of your degree at TMU. In this program, you’ll explore the interconnectedness of worldwide markets and acquire and cultivate the economic skills necessary to make strategic decisions from an informed global perspective. You can participate in local or international work placements, case studies, advanced analysis and computer simulations, and receive specialized training in economics, finance, mathematics and statistics, and will complete a required internship/co-op in a professional environment.
