Cranfield University

The university was formed in 1946 as the College of Aeronautics, on the former Royal Air Force base of RAF Cranfield, which opened in 1937. Together with other individuals, Stafford Cripps was instrumental in the foundation of the original college in 1946, from which the university developed. In 1967 the college presented the Privy Council with a petition for the grant of a Royal Charter along with a draft charter for a new institution to be called Cranfield Institute of Technology. In 1993 the institution's Royal Charter was amended to change its name to Cranfield University. Cranfield is world-leading in its contribution to global innovation. With our emphasis on the aerospace, agrifood, defence and security, environmental technology, leadership and management, manufacturing and transport systems sectors, we have changed the way society thinks, works and learns. The university’s Corporate Plan, 'One University - shaping our future', identifies four strategic priorities which will be our focus over the next five years. An investment in education is a life-changing decision that will affect your future career. By choosing Cranfield you will be joining a forward-thinking community where our exceptional teaching, research and innovation leads to world-changing advances. As an exclusively postgraduate university Cranfield is unique. Find out from students, staff and alumni about what makes the Cranfield experience special and where a Cranfield degree could take your career.
